2nd International Solidarity Research Conference

The 2nd International Solidarity Research Conference takes place on November 5 and 6, 2026, at the Babeș-Bolyai University, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The conference focuses on the ‘Limits of Learning and Solidarity’.

The concept of solidarity is crucial for the cohesion of increasingly fragmented societies. Its basis can be seen in different social ties, for example  in collective identities as well as in welfare state structures that characterise modern societies.

According to Mergner's (1999) theory of social learning boundaries, solidarity ties are shaped, constrained and often limited by the prevailing power relations and dominant moral frameworks within society.

Therefore, when considering the boundaries of solidarity, it is important to speak not only about doing , but also about the social limits of learning solidarity.
