Terms and Conditions of Participation for Specialist Seminars, Specialist Courses, Conferences and Congresses of the School of Social Work, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (HSA FHNW)

1. Scope
These Terms and Conditions of Participation apply to the non-structured continuing education offerings of the HSA FHNW, namely specialist seminars, specialist courses, conferences and congresses. Separate terms and conditions apply to the structured continuing education offerings of the HSA FHNW (SAS, CAS, DAS and MAS); these are set out directly in the relevant programme regulations.

2. Content of the continuing education offering / legal recourse
The content of each continuing education offering is set out in the relevant offering description. The HSA FHNW reserves the right to make changes relating to the delivery of the offering and to the lecturers and speakers. Such changes do not give rise to any claims.

3. Registration and fees
By registering, participants undertake to pay the fees for attending the continuing education offering in full and by the applicable due date. The fees for continuing education offerings and the payment terms are governed by the offering descriptions (flyers and web pages) in effect at the time of registration. Unless otherwise stated in the offering description, the fees do not include the costs of accommodation, meals or travel.

If individual sessions are not attended or a participant discontinues the continuing education offering before it has ended, the full fees remain payable. If the participant discontinues the offering for valid reasons, particularly illness, the persons responsible for the offering may waive all or part of the fees upon presentation of appropriate supporting evidence (e.g. a medical certificate).

4. Withdrawal by participants
Any withdrawal by a participant after the HSA FHNW has confirmed the registration must be submitted in writing.

  • For withdrawals received at least eight weeks before the offering begins, an administrative fee may be charged.
  • For withdrawals received less than eight weeks but at least four weeks before the offering begins, the HSA FHNW will charge 50% of the fees.
  • For withdrawals received less than four weeks before the offering begins and up to the start of the offering, the HSA FHNW will charge 100% of the fees.

5. Cancellation/postponement and changes to the offering by the HSA FHNW
The HSA FHNW reserves the right to make changes to the offering (location, time, lecturers, speakers, content, etc.) where such changes serve quality enhancement and/or the organisation and feasibility of the offering.

The HSA FHNW reserves the right to cancel or postpone continuing education offerings if an insufficient number of participants have registered. Registered participants will be informed of any cancellation or postponement in writing, by email or post, no later than four weeks before the offering begins. If the HSA FHNW cancels an offering, it will refund any fees and costs already paid.

If an offering is postponed, a registered participant may withdraw their registration in writing within 14 days of being notified. In this case, the HSA FHNW will also refund any fees already paid. Any further claims for compensation are expressly excluded.

Changes to the offering pursuant to paragraph 1 do not constitute cancellation or postponement.

6. Insurance
Participants are responsible for obtaining accident and personal liability insurance. The FHNW accepts no liability.

7. Personal data and copyright
The processing of personal data is governed by the FHNW Data Protection Directive.

Participants acknowledge that a list of participants containing contact details (name, first name, employer and email address) may be distributed to all participants in the continuing education offering. Participants also acknowledge that their name and address may be stored for internal purposes and may be used, among other things, for FHNW marketing purposes. No personal data will be disclosed to external third parties.

Conference and teaching materials are protected by copyright. Unauthorised copying and unauthorised distribution outside the HSA FHNW are prohibited without the written permission of the persons responsible for the offering.

8. Applicable law
The courts in Brugg-Windisch have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes. Swiss law applies.

9. Validity
These Terms and Conditions of Participation apply to programmes for which registration takes place on or after 1 November 2026 and replace all previous versions.
